Can a laser cutting machine cut galvanized steel sheets?
Principles of laser cutting:
Laser cutting uses a high power density laser beam focused onto the workpiece to rapidly melt, vaporize, burn or ignite the irradiated material. At the same time, the molten material is blown away by a high-speed gas coaxial with the beam, thus achieving cutting of the workpiece.
Galvanized steel sheet is a commonly used material in manufacturing. It has a zinc coating to prevent corrosion of the steel sheet and extend its service life. It is mainly used for outer housings of home appliances, civil chimneys, cookware, etc. So is this material suitable for laser cutting?
In general, laser cutting machines can easily cut galvanized steel sheets. Most organic and inorganic materials commonly used in industrial manufacturing systems can be cut, regardless of hardness.
During galvanized sheet processing, auxiliary gas needs to be added. The purity and pressure of the auxiliary gas directly affect the quality of the cut sheet edges. The oxygen purity for cutting should be above 99.6%. The higher the oxygen purity for cutting, the higher the roughness and quality of the cut galvanized sheet edges, but
the cutting cost will also increase accordingly. The nitrogen purity during cutting should be higher than 99.5% to ensure the kerf does not change color during galvanized sheet cutting.
